Beef Finishing School Begins November 7
“Raising the Steaks” Beef Cattle Finishing School begins on Wednesday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m. Participants will learn how to finish beef cattle, with details on both grain and forage finishing. The cost of the program is $40. Call (502) 222-9453 to reserve your seat for this program.
Area Extension offices will take turns hosting Beef Finishing School:
November 7, Budgeting & Facilities – Spencer County Extension
November 14, Health & Nutrition – Oldham County Extension
November 28, Finishing Strategies & Marketing – Shelby County Extension
December 5, Grading & Processing – Henry County Extension
Regional Beef Field Day
This year’s Regional Beef Field Day will be on Monday, October 1, at Allison Charolais Farm, 545 Eminence Road, in New Castle. Registration and Exhibits open at 3:30 p.m. Tours will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a meal to follow.
Featured tour topics will include Heifer Development; Bull Selection; Alfalfa Establishment & Production; and Using Hoop Barns. Hoop barns are versatile structures with many uses, and these can provide less expensive alternatives for shelter and storage.
Reserve your meal by calling (502) 222-9453. Reservations are due by September 21.
Regional Beef Field Day is sponsored by the Cattlemen’s Associations of Henry, Oldham, Shelby, and Trimble Counties in addition to Extension Agriculture programs.
