Keeping up with the countdown – only 40 days until spring! Read on for info on classes and field days coming up now through summer.

For Horse Owners – The University of Kentucky is currently researching how owners select and utilize hay for their horses.  Please take a few moments to complete our survey to help identify what is most important to you when buying hay.  Thanks for your time.

For Beginning & Experienced Beekeepers – Oldham County Beekeepers have many classes and activities scheduled.  Check these out on the Oldham County Beekeepers website.

FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN CLASSES, FIELD DAYS, CERTIFICATIONS – Registration for the following activities is required by calling 502-222-9453.

Beef Quality & Care Assurance Certification – February 18th, 9:00 – 10:30 am at Oldham County Extension

Vegetable Gardening from Seed to Harvest – March 17th, 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Oldham County Extension

Private Pesticide Applicator Certification – March 17th, 6:00 pm at Henry County Extension

Farmers Market Scale Certification – March 21st, 9 am – 12 noon at Oldham County Extension.  A KY Dept. of Ag Inspector will be available to inspect and certify your farmers market scales.  Scales may be dropped off the week of March 14 – 18 to accommodate busy schedules OR may be brought in March 21st while the inspector is here.  If dropping off — bring power cords with scales or make sure they are fully charged to allow for inspection.  Also make sure that scales are labeled with your name. The Kentucky Farmers Market Handbook outlines requirements for legal farmers market scales.

Equine Farm Equipment Field Day – April 2nd, 10 am – 1:30 pm at Flying Cross Farm.  The field day will include tractor and equipment displays and talks on Equipment Selection and New/Used Tractor Selection.  This field day is targeted to farms 25 acres or smaller.  Registration is requested to help us plan for lunch.

Pond Management Field Day – July 9th, La Grange.  This field day will include information on protecting pond banks, reducing sedimentation, controlling weeds, and more.
